Athens · Pass comparison 2026

The Athens passes compared

Five passes from three providers. All cover the core — Acropolis, Acropolis Museum and hop-on/hop-off — the differences are in the extras.

ⓘ To be honest

Turbopass City Pass and Mega Pass both hold an independent GetYourGuide rating of 4.0 out of 5. Travellers praise the convenient hop-on/hop-off bus; some criticise that the bus ticket isn’t digital or that e-tickets arrived late.

For the Tiqets Athens Pass we show the current live rating. Note: the product has changed several times over the years — the most recent reviews are more telling than the historical average.

Is it worth it?

Is a pass worth it — money or time?

On price alone an Athens pass is not worth it for everyone: if you only want the Acropolis, a single ticket is cheaper. The real gain is time — skip-the-line entry, an audio guide instead of research, and hop-on/hop-off instead of hunting for tickets. If you visit several sights and use the bus over 2–3 days, the pass usually saves money too.

Does the pass pay off? A sample calculation

A typical 2-day plan for two people — single prices vs. pass price (approximate, 2026).

ItemSingle
Acropolis ticket (timed)30,00 €
Acropolis Museum15,00 €
Hop-on/hop-off (2 days)33,00 €
Audio guide / app5,00 €
Single total (per person)83,00 €

Booked separately you pay roughly €75–90 per person just for the Acropolis, museum and bus. A pass bundles that into one price and saves you the queue. So it pays off once you use the bus and at least two paid sites — otherwise a single ticket is cheaper.

📶 A note on the eSIM included with Mega Pass & Turbopass City Pass

The Mega Pass includes a 3 GB eSIM and the Turbopass City Pass comes with a 1 GB Kolet eSIM. For travellers from outside the EU that’s genuinely useful. As an EU citizen you already roam in Greece at your home rates (EU roaming) — so the eSIM is a benefit you pay for but barely need. Factor that out when comparing prices.

Before you go

Acropolis time slots & avoiding crowds

The Acropolis uses a fixed time slot. With the passes your slot is assigned at booking (the Turbopass City Pass, for example, on day one between 16:00 and 19:00) — check the exact time on your voucher. On hot summer days go early morning or late afternoon, when it’s cooler and quieter. No ticket lets you skip the security check at the entrance.

Getting there & public transport

From the airport, Metro Line 3 takes you straight into the centre (Syntagma), or use the X95 express bus. With Turbopass City Pass and Flex Pass you can add a 5-day public-transport ticket (OASA) — valid for metro, tram and bus in the city, but not for the airport transfer. For most travellers the hop-on/hop-off bus plus walking is enough anyway, as the old-town highlights (Plaka, Acropolis, Agora) are close together.

Great experience: Acropolis with the museum, several smaller museums, the city on foot and of course the hop-on/hop-off buses. The bus rides were beautiful.

Fabian · Germany 11/2025
★★★★★

Lovely trip. It would be better if the bus ticket were stored digitally.

Anita · Germany 10/2025
★★★★★

Using the bus made everything very flexible.

Anja · Germany 09/2025
★★★☆☆

The boat was very crowded, hard to find a seat. But the prices were okay.

Mega Pass ★★★★☆ 4,1 · Based on 23 reviews (GetYourGuide)
Julia · Germany 10/2025
★★★★★

Great way to explore the busy Acropolis at your own pace. The museum tour adds context — go to the museum first.

Daphne · India 09/2025
★★★★★

Had trouble picking attractions at first, but support helped immediately and kindly. Acropolis, museum and hop-on/hop-off then ran smoothly.

Traveller · Canada 04/2026
★☆☆☆☆

We didn’t receive the e-tickets in time — even 30 minutes before the activity nothing had arrived despite contacting support.

Tiqets Athens Pass ★★★★☆ 4,1 · Based on 844 reviews (Tiqets)

Everything was beautiful, getting the pass was super easy!

Skip-the-line entries worked well. The travel guide is too brief — a more detailed version (even for an extra fee) would be welcome.

Frequently asked questions

Is an Athens pass worth it at all?
It depends on what you plan to do. If you only want to see the Acropolis, a single ticket is cheaper. Once you combine several sights, the Acropolis Museum and the hop-on/hop-off bus over 2–3 days, a pass usually saves money — and most of all time, thanks to skip-the-line entry.
How good is the audio guide?
Audio guides for the Acropolis, the museum and the sightseeing bus are included with the passes. If detailed explanations matter to you, a guided tour (see “Acropolis single ticket”) is the better choice than the app alone.
Can I cancel a pass?
It depends on the provider. For the Turbopass City Pass, Turbopass T&C apply a flat €30 cancellation fee per pass (only possible as long as it is unused and no tickets/reservations have been issued). For the Turbopass Flex Pass: no attraction chosen yet = full refund; partially reserved = prorated refund; fully reserved = no refund. In both cases there are no refunds less than 24 hours before the start date. The Mega Pass and bookings via GetYourGuide come with free cancellation up to 24 hours before the chosen date.
Are the passes instantly bookable?
Yes. All passes are fully digital: you get the voucher straight to your phone and can use it right away. Depending on the season we recommend booking an Acropolis time slot in advance — you’ll see that step inside each provider’s booking flow.
What sets Mega Pass apart from Turbopass and Tiqets?
The Mega Pass is valid 365 days and allows non-consecutive days — useful if you want to stay flexible. Turbopass covers the most attractions (City Pass) or lets you freely pick 2–7 (Flex Pass) and offers optional transit and an island cruise. The Tiqets Athens Pass bundles the core highlights plus a Cape Sounion tour and a 10 % discount code for future bookings.
How long is the Turbopass Flex Pass valid?
The Flex Pass is valid 30 days from activation. At checkout you only set the number of attractions (between 2 and 7) — which ones exactly, you decide later inside the digital pass. Once an attraction is chosen, the choice cannot be changed though.
Do I pay more by booking via AthensPass.net?
No. You book directly with the provider at the regular price. We receive a commission when you book through our links — at no extra cost to you.
